Swinney accepts Clemson coaching offer

The Dabo Swinney era at Clemson could “officially” begin today.

According to multiple reports, Clemson athletic director Terry Don Phillips offered the head football coaching job to Swinney in a meeting on campus Sunday afternoon. Swinney accepted and contract negotiations are expected to continue this morning, with a tentative press conference to follow.

Swinney took over the Tigers on October 13 following the resignation of Tommy Bowden. Clemson, 3-3 at that point, finished 7-5, including Saturday’s 31-14 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Sex, Guns and CSU athletics

It’s been an interesting week, to say the least, for the athletic department at Charleston Southern University.

On Tuesday, four CSU student-athletes were arrested, and subsequently suspended, in connection with a robbery on campus, one that placed the campus on lock down two weeks ago.

Today we learned starting quarterback Tribble Reese, a fifth-year MBA student and transfer from Clemson, is featured in the latest issue of Cosmo magazine, as part of their 2008 “Hot Bachelors” feature.

Reese offered these less-than-intriguing details for his published Q & A with the magazine:

Sex on a first date? “Skanky”
A woman going commando? “Sexy”
Can a hookup turn into a relationship? “Yes”

Four CSU athletes arrested in robbery

Four Charleston Southern University student-athletes have been arrested and suspended by the University indefinitely in connection with last Monday’s robbery on campus.

Police identified the suspects as: Zachery Hillery, 20, of Sanford, Fla., Samuel Baptiste, 20, of Naples, Fla., T.J. Latimore, 19, of Cleveland and Ronald Jay Baldner, 19, of Crystal River, Fla.

North Charleston police said a bail hearing for the students on charges of armed robbery and kidnapping was expected at 2:30 p.m. today.

In a press release issued this morning, CSU head football coach Jay Mills said:

“We are disappointed to hear of the charges brought against these young men. Our athletics program at CSU continues its commitment to the academic, athletic, spiritual and character development of our student athletes.”

The North Charleston Police Department reported two men approached a male and female victim in the campus parking lot. One suspect took out a handgun and told the victims to get in the car and drive.  The victims drove the men to Atlantic Palms apartment complex where the suspects robbed the couple of approximately $35.

The campus was locked down for approximately one hour after the alleged robbery took place last Monday night.

Bad Behavior has blocked 63 access attempts in the last 7 days.
